Lou Mallozzi Sound Artist

Image
This is Lou Mallozzi a "recognized internationally for both his independent works and collaborations with visual artists and musicans. "  He is on the faculty of the sound Department of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.   As we were walking on the 3rd floor of the MCA, Lou Mallozzi stood at the railing looking through a telescope and described what he saw.    A young woman (either a docent or a student) handed me a piece of paper explaining he looks at the main floor and describes the visitors  into a microphone.  He is turning the observer (you) into the observed.

Mixed Media and more

Image
2 mixed media pieces I liked a lot.  The medals and patches are neat and the paper leaves on the tree are sweet.

Lots of commentary in this exhibit

Image
There were too many statements in the exhibit... Lots of people explaining their position on the questions posed.

Free Art

Someone posted this in the exhibit.  There were others, but this one was peculiar

China Bicycle

Image
This was my favorite piece in the Urban China exhibit.  I love the way this bicycle was turned into useful transportation, with a RED light.

Lady under a mattress

Image
This exhibit at MCA was different.  The projector was aimed at the puffy form (which was her head) and it showed her talking and commenting on something.  It was a video of her talking.

This is a huge painting by Luc Tuymans who just had an exhibit at MCA.

What to do when someone breaks your car window

Image
Driving in winter without a back window?  Stick a pillow in it and keep going.  Looks like it has been in there for a while.  Not art, but funny.

6 handles

I was thinking this piece would make a nice pendant to wear on a chain.  Jewelry artists who work with PMC: Here's a cool idea to jump start your creativity.

Dancing Brooms

Image
Having just seen the movie "Black Swan", these intertwined or woven brooms reminded me of the ballerinas who hold hands and dance across the stage, all moving as one...

There is nothing like a trip to an art museum to get you out of a SAD, (Seasonal Affective Disorder) frigid cold depression. I bought this lovely snow globe hand made in the USA, I know can you believe it was made here??? When I went to check out with my stack of goodies, the clerk at the Museum gift shop told me when David Sedaris came in at Christmas time, this globe was his sole purchase. She also told me she is a huge fan of his work and went to the book signing when he was in town. He signed the book, "thanks for all your $$UPORT ". she knew the dollar signs instead of the letter S was predictable, but she still chuckled.
