Hey, it's Howdy Doody

Snapple cap fact #760:  Dolphins sleep with one eye open.

My new friend, Dresden

Image
I fed biscuits to a new customer's dog pal, Dresden. He's a 2 year old Boxer who is very sweet and muscular. It's the second boxer dog I've meet in a week. Dogs are the best kind of art.

?surprise? gift box from Marcella! on Twitpic    click on the link to the left  of this sentence to view Jane's box. I was on facebook looking at Jane Wynn's photo and saw another photo which showed my box o' treasures I sent her...  I need to send everyone a box of stuff so I have less. If you want some stuff, notify me and it shall happen.  Really.

cool bud vases

Image
I was downtown last week and went into the MCA's store to look around.  I found these cool "floating" bud vases.  They are magnetic.  The square flat piece is held onto the tall tube by magnet, so you can put these in between a tablecloth so they appear to be floating.  Too much work for me.  I just love the clean lines so I bought them. I had them empty until Frank brought home some flowers.  Our "rule" in the house, is NO fake flowers...

Fall is approaching

Image
While we've had our share of hot humid days this summer, signs of fall approaching are all around us. Our driveway is full of dried leaves and I saw these beautiful crab apples on a nearby tree. Love mother nature's red.

Ken in the wilderness

Image
Ken, lying exposed to the elements Yesterday, I attended the first meeting of a newly formed metal guild in our area.  One of the members told me she read my blog and wanted to know what was going on with the Barbie Doll laying in the tree trunk. I told her I haven't checked on her lately because of the mosquitoes.  All this rain and no local spraying leave us infested with millions of mosquitoes. I braved the elements and a big fat bumble bee was hovering in the trunk, so I had to keep dodging it to get a shot at Ken...  Here he is, about 8 inches away from Barbie ( who can't be seen at this angle). Looks pretty good, considering.  May have to put a blanket on him for the upcoming winter.

Red Eyes?

Magazine Stand

When is the last time you saw one of these free form structures outside? When I was a little girl, they were wooden shacks. I'm glad to see they still exist.

Snapped this photo off the musician's back as I was walking to another refrigerator. I did not hear his music.

Peas on Earth

Image
I think this one was titled "Peas on Earth"... Looks like the refrigerator I grew up with. Ok, minus the Pea sculpture.

The neighbor's dog is back in the shed.  I've been giving him cold water and some dog bones.  I don't want him to give up on humans.  He dug up the foundation inside his little shed/jail.

I remember going through these doors

When I was a little girl, after my parents divorced, we would get around Chicago and the suburbs by way of Cta.   My mother did not drive, so when we visited places, we would take the bus or the "el", (which is an abbreviation for elavated) to our destinations.    It seemed like everyone rode the bus when I was a little kid, but it probably had more to do with living in Chicago, where bus and train travel could get you where you wanted to go.

chicken for valley ridge

Image
this is the vintage nail art chicken  detail of nails This is the chicken art I gave to Kathy for the farmhouse at VAlley Ridge. She has lots of chicken statues and stuff inside and thought this guy  would fit alongside all the other chickens.

Mt. Katahdin

Image
Snapple cap fact #383: Mt. Katahdin  in Maine is the first place in the US to get sunlight each morning.

Sushi for all

Image
The new Sushi place in town is too good.  I don't think it will last.  They are in a bad location with really good food.  I hate to be a pessimist, but all the good restaurants leave our town because nobody supports them. I will go there as long as they are here. The presentation is nice, but the food is fresh and flavorful.

Barn

Image
I've been driving by this abandoned barn for a few years.  I guess I'm waiting for someone to buy the land or knock down the barn and surrounding structures.  It is happening all over our county.  I try to photograph them before they are knocked down.  Some are barely standing.  This one is starting to show the neglect.

tree frog

Image
this is the tree frog on our back door.  I tried taking his friend inside to photograph him, but he kept jumping around, so here is the one who just stayed put. Every year we get these tree frogs for a short time.  Only at night do I see them. Last year he was on the garage door.  They must like aluminum.

Real Fact #921

" If you had 1billion dollars and spent 1 thousand dollars a day, it would take you 2,749 years to spend it all."

off to another workshop this week

Image
Yeah... after a stressful July, I am off to a workshop at Valley Ridge ART STUDIO. I am still working on de-cluttering my work space indoors, reducing my "collections" and moving out the old stuff I no longer need or want. It is a huge task and I need help.

Isn't she beautiful.  I'd like to put her on our property.

Rain again

Image
I've not had much chance to use my pig water can.  It is raining again.  Must be why we have so many little frogs in the grass this year.

today was a good day

Image
The cicadas are so loud outside, you can barely hear yourself think. The humidity is so thick, it is like living in a steambath, just going outdoors. It is good to be healthy and alive.
