Vintage Tin Art

Image
This is the Doll I made in Linda and Opie O'brien's workshop. It is still one of my favorite pieces. I like working with tin almost as much as I like working with wire and beads.
We are going to have our vents cleaned. The house was built in 1847 and who knows when the vents were installed, so I am having them cleaned. My allergies are so bad I am willing to do anything to help the situation. Also, having the semi annual window washing done. So, a lot of cleaning around here. I need an art studio.

Gourd update

Image
We never got any darned gourds out of the neverending vine which was growing from under the back porch. Frank finally put it in the burn pile this weekend. We cleared some of the fallen branches from the woods, but when there is only two of you, it isn't much... A lot more to be cleared up, but my back started to hurt from bending down. I also pulled weeds from the roots, so they would not return. Needless to say, we did not work out at the gym yesterday, since we busted our butts doing forestry work. Apple Tree Update: Duncan and Buddy are getting the last of the apples off the trees. Soon, the apples will be gone.

Fall is the best time to clean up the fallen trees

Image
I have been having a tough time with my allergies. Still not feeling well. Have some meds to pick up at the pharmacy. Need to work tommorow. Have little thorns stuck in my skin and can't get them out... ouch.

still busy with real work for apc, will resume art as soon as I can.

may day dance is over

Image
It is starting to get colder outside. Today was our first day of chilly weather. I went to the gym in the cold rain. I need to make an appt with the trainer so I can have a program to do with the machines on the days I don't do cardio. I actually like it over there because nobody is in there when I go.. a few men, but pretty much it is empty. Had some work to do for APC, so I have not been doing anything arty. I need to finish my altered diva project. Lots of allergy problems, so I am a bit off. Not feeling too good and it is stressful having an injured pet in the house. We still have to carry him around. His staples look better. He still wears the cone when we can't watch him like a hawk.

goats and horses

Image
I have not been posting much... I had to work today and worked in the yard and then we went to dinner at Crandall's in Hebron.. The best broasted chicken in the world. They have really good mashed potatoes and bannana cream pie and coffee. It was really crowded tonight. Gave the horses some apples yesterday and today... Fed the goats some saltines.

Jewelry Pieces for MCJC Auction

Image
These are the items for the MCJC auction in November. I hope it brings them some money.

Cone Adornment

Image
This morning Howie got his stitches off... Hurray, no more cone. Within 1 hour, he licked open his incision and back to the vet for stapling and more cone therapy. We now have to watch him walk around with this cone on his head for 10 more days. He just hates the cone.

The Fall, continued

Image
MOst of Dufield property has black walnut trees and they turn a beautiful mustardy yellow. Occasionally, we find bright bursts of red and it is striking to look at. I am finishing up the jewelry I am donating for the auction and will post soon.

The Fall

Image
Frank and I worked out today. He said it helped his backache and it is good for his arthritis. Mother Nature wows us this time of year.

Welded Chicken Art

Image
I wish I can learn how to do some art Welding... I could make a cool chicken like this. I found this at Carriage House when I worked last week. It is so cool, I want to keep it inside and look at it.

At least he can see outside the cone... I remember seeing opaque ones in the past...

Sick again

Image
I came down with an awful cold/allergy attack. Then my back goes out because all that sneezing yanks on my body... I had some chicken soup last night and went to bed. Woke up at 10:15 am... I never sleep so late! Howie update: Howie has the halo around his neck because he broke through/ripped one of his stitches out. He just hates that halo collar, but we have no choice. The stitches don't come out until late next week. He is eating a little bit of food now. He drinks his water too.

Insulted at the Walmart last Tuesday

I do not look like Sarah Palin.... If someone told me I looked like Tina Fey, it would be ok... I was at the Walmart last Tuesday and this big fat guy riding around in one of those golf cart type things tells me I looked like Sarah Palin. I told him it was not a compliment to me. Then he drives over to me later and tells me he was sorry and he did not mean to insult me. I told him I was not insulted. He was not handicapped. He got off the cart to get the free cookie samples at the bakery. I think he is just fat and lazy.

Day of Atonement is over

Image
Spent the day in services today. The fast went well and I ate too much afterwords. Have committed to making a few jewelry pieces for the congregation's annual auction in November. Who knows, maybe I'll make an altered art piece too... Frank thinks I should make a personalized piece with MCJC as part of the art.... sounds like a challenge. Howie update: Howie's pain patch came off today. We think he's glad to have the bandage off his stomach. He's not eating much. I am still putting peanut butter in his mouth to get antibiotics and pain meds into him. I hope now that the pain patch is off, his appetite will return. He has refused just about every type of food we've given him, including his dog food. He's eaten a few of those dried up chicken strips... ( they are now up to $20, even at Walmart... Must be made with gold)

Howie and his big ass bandage

Image
Poor Howie does not know what is going on... Somebody cut open his leg and put this humongo bandage on his leg.. He can't walk on all 4's and He's drugged. He's in the large crate when we can't carry him. No stairs or jumping, so it is the safetest place for him.. because he wants to jump and do everything himself, but he's not allowed. Peanut butter is getting his antibiotics and pain pills down.

Howie's surgery is done... Hurray

Image
Howie's surgery is done. We just got the call and the surgeon finished. All 3 procedures were discussed with us and we are certain the acl repair we had done is appropriate for our HOwie. Also, the return to previous function is not 70%, but 90%.. Dr. Shaw said Howie will do really well as long as he does the rehab. We are going to go to Crystal Lake Dog Rehab with him as soon as he is able. The rehab will determine how much ROM he will get back.. I know this is an image of a smooth fox terrier, but it resembles our Howie. Hurray for Howie. He's over the worst part.

Carol Owen Spirit House Workshop

Image
These are images of my last workshop for 2008: Carol Owen's wonderful workshop for crafting personal Shrines. Of course I forgot to bring my book for her to sign.... I am so glad I attended this workshop. Not only is she a delightful, interesting and nice person, she is a good instructor and gave us a lot of useful information to use on our journey of making altered art. I have a little more to do to my piece before I am finished with it... One of the photos is my workstation.. the one with the palette is my messy table.

"October Fullness" by Pablo Neruda

Image
I found this poem by Pablo Neruda in Sunday's newspaper. I like it and bet you will too. Little by little, and also in great leaps, Life happened to me, And how significant this business is. These veins carried My Blood, which I scarcely ever saw, I breathed the air of so many places Without keeping a sample of any. In the end, everyone is aware of this: Nobody keeps any of what he has, And life is only a borrowing of bones

taking a few days off

Image
Off to another art workshop. Be back on time for Howie's surgery on Monday.

Howie is injured

Image
Today, during the commotion of the tree being sawed down, Howie had to go out to his pen to do his business. He saw his dad leave and he wanted to follow, but I picked him up and took him to his pen. I was walking downstairs with him, he jumped out as I put him down and he landed on the stairs, injuring himself. Howie our beloved dog will have to have cruciate surgery on October 9th. He will have a long recovery, 12 weeks. I think he will be ok. I can mend him back to health. It is a sad day at our house today. We have pain killers for him. I only gave him 1/2 of the pill, since it knocked him out..
