Wisconsin four leaf Clover

Image
Ellen found this four leaf clover in a patch in Elkorn. I found one too and gave it to her.

home grown carrots for Buddy and Duncan

Image
AFter Elkhorn yesterday, we stopped at Ginger Blossom's and I bought some home grown carrots... One of them looks like a pig hoof. Anyway, I cut them up and they were the brightest orange you ever saw. The perfect treat for Duncan and Buddy next door.

overstimulated at Elkhorn Flea Market today

Image
Ellen and I went to Elkhorn Wisc flea market today. There was so much stuff there. I ran into a lot of people I knew who were selling there. It was a nice day to be outside once the sun came out. Afterwords, we went to Ginger Blossoms in Richmond. Man, there is a lot of stuff there.

vintage cement birdbath and neon bowling sign

Image
This was my present... a vintage birdbath. Snapped the picture of the vintage neon bowling sign in Waconda on the way back from Wheeling...

11 year wedding anniversary

Image
Frank and I went to Bob Chin's in Wheeling for our Anniversary. We had tons of yummy oysters, seafood gumbo and crab legs. We even drank the mai tai drinks.

Gordo the talking cat, my constant companion

Image
Ever since George died, Gordy has become even more vocal and follows me around wherever I go. He is quite demanding and bossy.

Maple wood and a weathervane

Image
The obvious result of the fallen tree: nice firewood for the fireplace. Also, found this really cool weathervane at work today. I sawed off the bottom and put it on top of our cupola. I think it looks great.

Gourd garden art

Image
Last year we had some ornamental gourds. Some squirrels got a hold of them and now we have this vine growing from under our back porch. Thanks to Ellen, who solved this mystery for us... we thought maybe someone planted some magic beans and we were getting a beanstalk to climb. So far, no gourds, but a lot of pretty flowers. We have one where I work too.. It has gourds on it already. Perhaps ours is just for show, no gourds.

It is a constant struggle to keep this room clean/organized/tidy.

Lets see what these will turn out to be. For now, I'll keep them in my cigar box for safekeeping.

I will chronicle my progress here, on the blog.

poodles and tree clean up

Image
I liked this ad in Sunday's paper for Scott paper. Here's an update on the fallen tree... progress on tree removal. I got a really nice round stump to hammer on when I forge metal and wire.

Kathy's 60th birthday dinner in Boulder

Here is a group photograph of all 6 of us at dinner

plastic moldorama ape

Image
This was my favorite animal at the zoo today. A plastic molded figurine. I remember these as a child visiting the zoo. You insert your money and wait for the machine to press together and mold you an animal right in front of your eyes. Still cool after all these years.

frog and snapple cap fact

Image
This was my 2nd favorite animal at the zoo... it is not real. Snapple cap fact # 371: Grapes are the most popular fruit in the world.

Brookfield Zoo

Image
Here are some photos of caged animals we saw at the zoo today.

tree in our back yard

Image
This huge tree fell while we were in Boulder last weekend. The news forecast said Chicago was experiencing "tropical winds"... Well, they were not kidding. Now we have this humongo tree to get rid of. This photo was taken at night. My neighbor has really good images of it on her flickr site.

frasca on Pearl Street in Boulder

Image
We went to Boulder and stayed at St.Julien hotel. It was a nice hotel, but beyond the lodging, was the best, and I mean the best massage I have ever gotten in my life. All six of us agreed this hotel is known for the best spa in Boulder. They have a signature wrap they do at the end of the massage I was really impressed. We ate at frasca... which was started in 2006 by a chef who left french laundry in Napa. It was good food (not too much of it, but enough for me) and we celebrated my sister in law's birthday in style.

howie dog art, a pig and farmer's market

Image
This photograph of a rat terrier looking inside a waste can is a clever take on the RCA trademark. The fat pig was outside a store at the street mall, a store named Paper Doll. It was on rockers, so you could ride the pig? The flowers were being sold at a huge farmer's market, off the retail area.

more tiki art for Karen

Image
Snapped this image of tiki for the neighbor Karen who likes tiki stuff.

Denver and Boulder September 2008

Some images from Boulder to ponder. The mosiac is from a tea house we visited.
